Hamilton's Newest Park - Victoria on the River

31st Jan 18

The planning began back in 2009 when the site was first purchased, funding was allocated in 2015 and construction began last April.  As the Hamilton City Council resumed business after the Christmas break, one of the first events was to officially open Victoria on the River last Thursday.

Over 200 people attended the opening which included food carts, live entertainment and of course fantastic views of the Waikato river.

The central city park offers a place for shoppers, visitors, tourists and city workers to relax, unwind and socialise.  Due to its amphitheatre style, it also offers a unique inner city event location.

As part of the initial ten year plan for Hamilton, there is a proposal to further expand Victoria on the River further down Victoria Street.  "We have a chance to create something special and something lasting for future generations in the heart of Hamilton.  This is a beautiful space", commented Mayor Andrew King.

In Hamilton? Really?

It’s no surprise that Auckland has the highest number of million dollar homes in the country. But did you know that along with Queenstown and Wellington, Hamilton has some of the most expensive non-Auckland real estate? It’s true!
